Across the nation, workers who work in daycare centers are fleeing the workplace at a record rate. This is due to the economic collapse, and the lack of childcare options.
This is especially true for women. That has led to a shortage of childcare workers, and many mothers have been left unemployed.
When children are in the care of someone else, it’s important that they feel safe and secure. It’s also important that providers follow basic safety standards to help protect young children and give parents peace of mind when they drop off their children at a child care center.
This includes background checks, trainings for teachers, and maintaining certain teacher-child ratios. These measures ensure that children receive quality care while their parents are away and that teachers have the skills they need to do their job well.
In addition to the federal government, states have been making progress in strengthening safety protections for child care. They include requiring background checks for workers, conducting unannounced inspections, and ensuring that teachers receive training in basic CPR and health skills.
One of the biggest hurdles to overcome is figuring out what types of child care facilities are truly affordable for low income families. Traditionally, child care has been viewed as an expense that can only be absorbed by the most fortunate among us. However, a number of initiatives have been put in place to ensure that all families can enjoy the benefits of a good, old-fashioned daycare program without breaking the bank.
A few of the most notable efforts include the Child Care for Working Families Act, a bill that is currently making the rounds in Congress; a well-funded national childcare plan; and an industry wide reorganization plan to ensure all parents can get the care they need, when they need it. There is also a small but mighty group of philanthropists who have stepped up to the plate to help make this happen. As far as the most cost effective ways to achieve this goal, we will be covering some of them in future articles.
The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) licenses or approves day care, group, school age, and family child care programs; family child care assistants; residential child care; adoption/foster care placement agencies; temporary shelters for children in most cities and towns; and other licensed settings.
EEC also issues a statement of purpose to all licensed child care programs, identifying their philosophy, goals and objectives. The statement must be made available to the program’s parents and kept current.
In addition, all staff of licensed child care programs must exercise appropriate supervision of the children in their care to ensure their safety at all times. This includes activities such as meals, naptime, transportation, and field trips. All educators must be qualified to supervise children and be trained in emergency procedures, child guidance, and first aid.
The staff at daycare massey is an important component of the child care equation. Not only do they provide hands-on childcare for young children but they are also an integral part of the parent-child relationship and help form the foundation of future success.
The most noteworthy staff members are probably the teachers and assistants. They are the people who have the most direct interaction with the kids in their care and are the ones whose job it is to make sure every child has a safe and happy experience while in their charge.
As for the rest of their colleagues, they are usually the forgotten link between the two above mentioned groups. They may not be the most exciting or glamorous, but their role in improving child outcomes is often overlooked and underappreciated by parents. Using their expertise to support the whole family is a win-win for everyone involved. This includes a more engaged and reenergized parent and a happier family unit with less stress and more peace of mind.
